Summary

Under limited supervision this position supports the Customer Business Units by providing accurate cost estimates for both new and existing business. This position analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals and other documentation to prepare time, cost and labor estimates.  This position is responsible for analysis of complex estimates and problem solving with Customer Business Units.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare quotes of all potential parts and systems considered for future business
  • Prepare quotes relative to changes to current business
  • Develop and maintain costing and/or manufacturing parameters utilized in the quoting process
  • Interface with product engineering, program management, manufacturing and Customer Business Units to guide in the product designs and low-cost alternatives
  • Assist in VA/VE studies and cost-savings analysis
  • Provide cost studies and analysis identifying cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts
  • Perform make versus buy analysis as needed to determine optimal business scenario
  • Assist platform finance function to ensure baseline costs, and all engineering changes are properly accounted for in the business case
  • Assist in establishing standards for Routings and Bills of Material, and audit Manufacturing Bills of Material, post launch, to ensure accuracy at plant locations
  • Expedite special assignments as directed by management     
  • Other duties as assigned

Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Finance, Accounting, or Economics is preferred
  • 3-7 years progressive work experience in relevant discipline, preferably in the automotive industry
  • Previous experience in manufacturing setting a plus

Language Ability

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write detailed reports, analysis and correspondence, effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and vendors
  • Technical writing ability for documenting instructions of processes and procedures

Math Ability

  • High proven math skills are required

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form 
  • Ability to accurately interpret blueprints and sketches
  • Ability to solve problems

Computer Skills

  • MS Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and other database programs, internet software, e-mail, knowledge of manufacturing software especially MS Project
  • TeamCenter and/or SAP experience is a plus

  • Ability to work under pressure with rapidly changing timelines and customer demands
  • Ability to quickly learn processes and comprehend information
  • Ability to adapt to abruptly changing business scenarios and sets of information
