Summary
The EHS Director provides enterprise leadership for Environmental, Health, Safety, and Sustainability across North American operations. This role drives a zero injury culture, a zero‑emissions roadmap, and regulatory excellence while enabling business growth, capital investment, and operational performance in a Tier‑1 automotive manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain corporate Environmental, Health & Safety policies, standards, procedures, and programs applicable to all locations.
- Provide leadership and direction to ensure consistent application of EHS requirements across plant and support functions.
- Support executive and plant leadership in understanding EHS risks, requirements, and performance.
- Establish and oversee occupational safety and health programs to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses.
- Monitor and analyze safety performance indicators including recordable injuries, severity, near misses, and corrective actions.
- Direct or participate in incident investigations and ensure root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented in a timely manner.
- Ensure emergency response and evacuation procedures are established, trained, and periodically tested.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local environmental regulations, permits, and reporting requirements.
- Develop and coordinate corporate environmental plans and support site environmental plans to reduce emission scope 1&2, waste, energy, and water target.
- Coordinate environmental initiatives related to sustainability, including Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions and waste reduction programs.
- Ensure environmental requirements are considered for new business programs, new processes, and equipment installations.
- Maintain current knowledge of EHS laws, regulations, and standards and communicate requirements to affected locations.
- Act as the primary company representative during regulatory inspections, audits, and communications with OSHA, EPA, and other authorities.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of regulatory documentation, permits, and required filings.
- Lead internal audits of Environmental, Health, Safety, and training programs.
- Support implementation and maintenance of EHS management systems including ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and related certifications.
- Track audit findings and corrective actions to completion and verify effectiveness.
- Coordinate and manage Workers’ Compensation, property, and auto insurance claims.
- Analyze trends and root causes of claims and work with sites to reduce loss exposures.
- Work with insurance brokers to review coverage, improve loss‑prevention programs, and support cost control.
- Ensure EHS training programs are established and maintained to meet regulatory and company requirements.
- Compile, analyze, and report EHS performance data to management.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives through data analysis and corrective action planning.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support operational, regulatory, and business objectives.
Education / Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in EHS, Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field
- 8+ years EHS leadership experience in Tier‑1 automotive or OEM manufacturing
- Proven success leading multi‑site EHS and sustainability programs
- Strong executive communication and change‑leadership capability
Language Ability
- Fluent in English
- Ability to analyze and interpret complex documents

- Strong math skills required

- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
