Summary
Responsible for providing accurate manufacturing impacts and costs for both new and existing business. Analyzes drawings, CAD, and other documentation to develop manufacturing assumptions including manning, cycle time, and equipment requirements. Works with corporate and plant cross functional teams to ensure proposals are validated and cost effective. Strong interdisciplinary approach is required for performing all tasks which involves participation and coordination in cross-functional teams including Product Development, Sales, Cost Estimating, Purchasing, EHS and global functions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for developing manufacturing assumptions for new business and engineering changes for existing business.
- Conducts manufacturing reviews with corporate staff and plants to ensure viable, cost-effective solutions.
- Works with plants to understand capacity and floor space utilization and makes recommendations for new product allocation.
- Maintains manufacturing standards database for quoting.
- Conduct post launch audits to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Ensures manufacturing feasibility by providing input to Product Engineering and participating in design reviews in early phases of projects.
- In cooperation with the tooling engineering group, ensure full integration of production tooling into equipment/process.
- Participate in and support cross-functional teams to develop equipment and process standards and provide solutions to achieve key launch deliverables.
- Participate in development of production layouts according to group standards.
- Plan for continuous improvement by analyzing current production equipment and processes.
- Work with Product Development group on cost reduction projects and troubleshooting activities
- Use lessons learned from previous launch experiences to improve process and equipment standards for the intent of specifying, quoting, procuring prototype and production equipment.
- Share best practices to ensure effective implementation of new technology in the production of new products.
- Responsible for PLM routings for new programs.
- As necessary, may be called upon to support program launch activities from pilot and pre-production phases through volume launch start of production.
- Willing and able to travel as required to manufacturing plants and equipment suppliers to support assigned programs
- Conduct business in a professional manner to uphold the company image and follow all policies and procedures.

Education / Experience
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial or Manufacturing preferred), related technical degree and/or equivalent work experience will be considered
- Must be familiar with technical drawings including, plant layout, equipment, product/component drawings and CAD data files
- 1-3+ years engineering experience (senior level 7-10+ years) in a manufacturing environment or function is required, including project management, equipment design/build, and process engineering.
Language Ability
- Excellent English verbal and written communication skills are required
- Ability to present information to groups of employees or management in a clear concise manner.
- Additional language comprehension (Spanish, German, French, Chinese) a plus.
Math and Technical Ability
- Strong math, engineering, blueprint, technical documentation and CAD skills are required
Reasoning Ability
- Ability to define and solve problems, draw valid conclusions from data and testing to make educated decisions.
- Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instruction.
Computer Skills
- MS Office: Word, Excel, Project, AutoCAD required
- Process simulation and modeling software a plus
This position works under pressure of deadlines with interruptions occurring regularly.
Travel is required approximately 10-20% of the time, by car or air, to visit suppliers and manufacturing locations. Some international travel could be required.
Position frequently requires more than 40 hours per week.
