The maintenance engineer is responsible for driving continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment reliability, increase machine uptime, and reduce operational costs. This role analyzes manufacturing and equipment performance data, performs root cause analysis, and implements solutions to improve machine performance and maintenance effectiveness. The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, and controls systems, including PLCs, drives, motors, and preventive maintenance, along with experience applying Lean Manufacturing principles in a production environment. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

  •  Manage maintenance-related projects and activities in conjunction with Maintenance Manager and the APU Managers.  
  • Develop, implement, and drive maintenance programs including PM, TPM, RCFA, FMEA, PDM, quality, safety, regulatory compliance, and other assigned initiatives.  

  • Review and analyze SAP maintenance data to support predictive and preventive maintenance strategies.  

  • Minimize equipment downtime through proactive maintenance planning and continuous improvement initiatives.  

  • Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Tooling, and Quality teams to identify and implement improvements related to downtime, cycle time, quality, and productivity.  

  • Manage APS maintenance requirements and ensure effective deployment throughout the operation.  

  • Evaluate spare parts requirements, coordinate inventory levels with the storeroom, and identify cost-saving opportunities through alternate components and standardization.  

  • Coordinate maintenance activities involving engineering, contractors, vendors, and internal resources.  

  • Develop policies and establish expectations to support Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) objectives and compliance requirements.  

  • Serve as a liaison between Maintenance, APU, and other departments through participation in cross-functional team and daily operational meetings.  

  • Develop contingency plans to address equipment failures and schedule interruptions.  

  • Support department 5S initiatives and continuous improvement activities.  

  • Partner with Maintenance Manager to conduct skills assessments and identify training needs.   

  • Travel to other Autoneum facilities as needed. 

  • Provide off-hours support, including weekends and holidays, as required. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering Technology, or related field. 

  • Two to five years of maintenance, manufacturing, or technical experience. 

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and other applicable safety and compliance standards. 

  • Experience developing and executing successful preventive and predictive maintenance programs. 

  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and controls systems. 

  • Experience working with 480 VAC, 208 VAC, and 24 VDC electrical systems. 

  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, blueprints, and electrical schematics. 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. 

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills. 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience with SAP or similar computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). 

  • Allen-Bradley and Siemens PLC/HMI experience or certifications. 

  • CAD software experience. 

  • Experience leading cross-functional improvement projects in a manufacturing environment. 

  • Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA), FMEA, TPM, Lean Manufacturing, or Continuous Improvement experience 

 
 
 

Language Ability 

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical documentation, maintenance manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics. 

  • Ability to prepare reports and present technical information effectively to employees, supervisors, managers, and cross-functional teams. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing. 

 Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, machinery, and moving equipment.  

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the facility.  

  • Ability to climb ladders, platforms, and access elevated equipment when required.  

  • Ability to frequently bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and work in confined spaces.  

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds occasionally.  

  • Ability to distinguish colors for electrical wiring, indicators, and control systems.  

  • Ability to travel throughout the plant to troubleshoot equipment and support production operations. 

  • Ability to wear required PPE (steel toes, safety glasses, and hearing protection).
